What does an idyllic ecommerce store look like? That’s what Nublue wanted to know, and why they asked me and a slew of other marketing experts what our vision of a perfect eStore was. It has to have a flawless checkout, because that’s where serious trouble can occur. I’m guessing that customers already want your product, otherwise they wouldn’t be truly shopping. And if they don’t? You need to work on that aspect well before you start tackling the perfection of your digital store.

A great checkout process is easy, user friendly, and clean. There should be trust symbols aplenty, which will give shoppers the reinforcement they need to move forward with a purchase. When I was the owner of Organize.com, the first thing I did was simplify a former 5-page checkout process into just two. Quickly, our sales almost doubled! An easier checkout process leads to less frustration and higher profits.

Other tips include prioritizing the user experience (and of course that includes the checkout) as well as taking the time to fully understand your audience. Otherwise, you won’t be able to deliver what they want.
